East Brooklyn Congregations (EBC) is a group that has been helping local communities since 1980. They bring together churches and other groups to fight for important changes. EBC works on four main areas: building more affordable homes and apartments, especially for seniors, and stopping neighborhoods from becoming too expensive for current residents. They help create better schools, including smaller high schools and charter schools that give families more choices. They push for fair policing and criminal justice reforms, plus better mental health services instead of just putting people in jail. Finally, they work to fix problems in public housing, like removing mold and lead, improving heating and cooling, and making buildings safer. EBC started in East Brooklyn but now works across Brooklyn and helps similar groups in other parts of New York City. Their goal is to give residents real power to make positive changes in their communities through organized action.
